Azee tablets (Generic Zithromax) is used for for the treatment of patients with Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Acute bacterial sinusitis, Community-acquired pneumonia, Pharyngitis/tonsillitis, Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections, Urethritis and cervicitis and Genital ulcer disease.
In recent years, Azithromycin has also been used primarily to prevent bacterial infections in infants and those with weaker immune systems. Azithromycin is an azalide, a subclass of macrolide antibiotics. It is derived from erythromycin. Azee tablets are manufactured by Cipla Ltd. in the strengths of 100 mg (DT), 250 mg, 500 mg and 1000 mg.

The active ingredient present in Azee tablets is Azithromycin. Each film coated Azee tablet contains 100 mg, 250 mg, 500 mg or 1000 mg of Azithromycin (anhydrous) (as Azithromycin Dihydrate IP)
Uses of Antibiotic Azithromycin (Azee Tablets by Cipla)
Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax) is used to treat many different types of infections caused by bacteria, such as respiratory infections, skin infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted diseases. It is a macrolide antibiotic related to erythromycin. The antibiotic Azithromycin fights bacteria in the body. It is also used in children to treat middle ear infection, pneumonia, tonsillitis, and strep throat. It will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu.
We supply Azee tablets manufactured by Cipla. It is also known as Generic Zithromax or Generic Azithromycin.
Azithromycin (Azee Tablets) Dosage
Azithromycin (Azee Tablets) may be taken with or without food. However, increased tolerability has been observed when tablets are taken along with food.The recommended adult dosage for the various indications is given below:
Community-aquired pneumonia (mild severity)/Pharyngitis/tonsillitis (second line therapy)/ Skin/skin structure (uncomplicated)
500 mg as a single dose on Day 1, followed by 250 mg once daily on Days 2 through 5.
Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (mild to moderate)
500 mg QD x 3 days OR 500 mg as a single dose on Day 1, followed by 250 mg once daily on Days 2 through 5.
Acute bacterial sinusitis
500 mg QD x 3 days
Genital ulcer disease (chancroid)
One single 1 gram dose
Non-gonoccocal urethritis and cervicitis
One single 1 gram dose
Gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis
One single 2 gram dose
How to Use Azee Tablets (Generic Zithromax)
Do not take Generic Zithromax in larger or smaller amounts or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. The dose and length of treatment with Azee tablets may not be the same for every type of infection. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Take this medicine for the full prescribed length of time.
Azithromycin tablets may be taken with or without food. Take it with food if it upsets your stomach.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Azee Tablets (Generic Azithromycin) - Contraindications
Azee tablets are contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to Azithromycin, erythromycin, any macrolide or ketolide antibiotic or any of its inactive ingredients. Azithromycin is contraindicated in patients with a history of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction associated with previous use of Azithromycin.
Azithromycin Side effects
Most of the reported side effects of Azithromycin tablets were mild to moderate in severity and were reversible upon discontinuation of Azee tablets. The most common treatment-related side effects in adult patients receiving Azithromycin tablets were related to the gastrointestinal system, with diarrhoea/loose stools (4-5%), nausea (3%), and abdominal pain (2-3%) being the most frequently reported.
Get emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction including hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:
• diarrhea that is watery or bloody
• chest pain, uneven heartbeats
• nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
• severe skin reaction, fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling
Less serious side effects of Azithromycin tablets may include:
• mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation
• stomach pain or upset
• dizziness, tired feeling, or headache
• nervous feeling, sleep problems (insomnia)
• vaginal itching or discharge
• mild itching or skin rash
• ringing in your ears, problems with hearing
• decreased sense of taste or smell
Overdose symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach discomfort. This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect.
Warnings & Precautions when Using Azee Tablets (Generic Azithromycin)
Do not take Azee if you are allergic to Azithromycin or to similar drugs such as erythromycin (E-Mycin® and Ery-Tab, E.E.S.®), clarithromycin (Biaxin®), telithromycin (Ketek®), or troleandomycin (Tao®). You should also not use this medicine if you have ever had jaundice or liver problems caused by taking azithromycin.
To make sure you can safely take this medicine tell your doctor if you have any of these other conditions:
• liver disease
• kidney disease
• myasthenia gravis
• a heart rhythm disorder
• a history of Long QT syndrome
Do not take antacids that contain aluminum or magnesium within 2 hours before or after you take this medicine. Antacids include Antacid, Rolaids, Maalox, Mylanta, Milk of Magnesia, Pepcid Complete, and others. These antacids can make it less effective when taken at the same time.
Antibiotic medicines can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or bloody, stop taking this medicine and call your doctor. Do not use anti-diarrhea medicine unless your doctor tells you to.
Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds. This medicine can make you sunburn more easily. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when you are outdoors.
Azithromycin During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Azithromycin has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category B.
Azithromycin may be harmful to an unborn baby. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.
Azithromycin should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
It is not known whether Azithromycin is excreted in breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medicine without informing your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
