Generic Yaz   (Crisanta tablets) is an oral contraceptive also known as a "birth control pill" or "the Pill" which is taken to prevent pregnancy. When administered correctly without missing any pills, have a failure rate of approximately 1% per year (1 pregnancy per 100 women per year of use). Each pack consists of 24 tablets, and each tablet contains 3 mg of drospirenone (DRSP) and 0.03 mg of ethinylestradiol (EE).

Crisanta tablets are also used for treatment of moderate acne vulgaris in women at least 14 years of age, if the patient desires an oral contraceptive for birth control at the same time. This medicine is also used for treatment of symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) in women who choose to use an oral contraceptive as their method of contraception.

Uses of Generic Yaz (Crisanta by Cipla)

Generic Yaz is used as contraception to prevent pregnancy and to treat moderate acne in women who are at least 14 years old and have started having menstrual periods, and who wish to use birth control pills to prevent pregnancy. It is also used to treat the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), such as anxiety, depression, irritability, trouble concentrating, lack of energy, sleep or appetite changes, breast tenderness, joint or muscle pain, headache, and weight gain. Each film-coated Generic Yaz tablet contains 3 mg of Drospirenone and 0.02 mg Ethinylestradiol.

Crisanta Dosage

A patient should begin to take Crisanta tablets on the first day (Day 1) of her menstrual period.

During the first cycle of Crisanta use, the patient should be told to take one tablet daily, beginning on day 1 of her menstrual cycle (the first day of menstruation is day one). She should take one tablet daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by 7 pill-free days. It is recommended that Crisanta be taken at the same time each day, preferably after the evening meal or at bedtime.

If Crisanta is first taken later than the first day of the menstrual cycle, it should not be considered effective as a contraceptive until after the first 7 consecutive days of administration of the medicine.

The patient should begin her next and all subsequent 28-day regimens of Crisanta tablets on the same day of the week that she began her first regimen, following the same schedule. She should begin taking her tablets on the next day after the 7 pill-free days, regardless of whether or not a menstrual period has occurred or is still in progress.

How to Use Crisanta Tablets

Take Crisanta Tablets exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor.

You will take your first pill on the first day of your period or on the first Sunday after your period begins (follow your doctor's instructions). Take one pill every day, no more than 24 hours apart. When the pills run out, start a new package the following day. Get your refilled before you run out of pills completely.

You may have breakthrough bleeding. Tell your doctor if this bleeding continues or is very heavy. If you need to have any type of medical tests or surgery, or if you will be on bed rest, you may need to stop using this medicine for a short time. Any doctor or surgeon who treats you should know that you are using birth control pills.

Your doctor will need to see you on a regular basis while you are using this medicine. Do not miss any appointments. Self-examine your breasts monthly to check for lumps while you are taking this medicine.

Missing a pill increases your risk of becoming pregnant. If you miss a pill, take the dose as soon as you remember or take two pills at the time of your next regularly scheduled dose. You do not need to use backup birth control.

If you miss 2 pills in a row in week one or two, take two tablets each for the next two regularly scheduled doses (one missed tablet plus one regularly scheduled tablet for 2 days in a row). Use another form of birth control for at least 7 days following the missed tablets.

If you miss 2 pills in a row in week three, or if you miss 3 pills in a row during any of the first 3 weeks, throw out the rest of the pack and start a new package on the same day if you are a Day 1 starter. If you are a Sunday starter, keep taking a pill every day until Sunday.

On Sunday, throw out the rest of the pack and start a new pack of pills that same day. You may not have a period that month, but this is expected. However, if you miss your period 2 months in a row, call your doctor because you might be pregnant.

If you miss a pill, you may become pregnant if you have sex in the 7 days after your missed it. You must use another birth control method (such as condoms or spermicides) as a back-up for those 7 days.

Crisanta Tablets Contraindications

Crisanta tablets are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to or to any other ingredient present in Crisanta (Generic Yaz birth control tablets).

Generic Yaz birth control tablets are also contraindicated in the presence or risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), major surgery with prolonged immobilization, known hereditary or acquired predisposition for venous thromboembolism, presence or risk of arterial thromboembolism (ATE), Cerebrovascular disease, history of migraine with focal neurological symptoms, severe hypertension, Renal impairment, severe renal insufficiency or acute renal failure, Presence or history of liver tumours (benign or malignant) or liver disease, Breast cancer or other oestrogen- or progestin-sensitive cancer, Undiagnosed abnormal uterine and vaginal bleeding, Headaches with focal neurological symptoms, migraine headaches with or without aura, Adrenal insufficiency, Coronary artery disease, Thrombogenic valvular or thrombogenic rhythm diseases of the heart, Inherited or acquired hypercoagulopathies and Pregnancy.

Crisanta Side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction including hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

• freckles or darkening of facial skin, increased hair growth, or loss of scalp hair
• changes in weight or appetite, swelling of your hands or feet
• problems with contact lenses
• vaginal itching or discharge or
• changes in your menstrual periods

Warnings & Precautions When Using Generic Yaz Birth Control Tablets

Do not take Generic Yaz birth control tablets if you are allergic or if you have:
• uncontrolled high blood pressure, migraine headaches, or a heart valve disorder
• a history of stroke, blood clot, or circulation problems of diabetes
• kidney or liver disease
• adrenal gland disorder
• unusual vaginal bleeding
• any type of breast, uterine, or hormone-dependent cancer
• a history of jaundice caused by birth control pills

Before using Crisanta, tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:
• high blood pressure or heart disease
• high cholesterol or if you are overweight
• liver cancer
• gallbladder disease
• diabetes
• seizures or epilepsy

This medicine may raise potassium levels in your blood. Other medical conditions can also affect potassium levels, including liver disease, kidney disease, and adrenal gland disorders. Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you have any of these conditions.

Do not smoke while using this medicine, especially if you are older than 35. Smoking can increase your risk of blood clots, stroke, or heart attack caused by birth control pills. This medicine will not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases including HIV and AIDS. Using a condom is the only way to protect yourself from these diseases.

Crisanta (Generic Yaz birth control tablets) During Pregnancy

Generic Yaz (Drospirenone and Ethinylestradiol) has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category X. Drospirenone (DRSP) and Ethinylestradiol (EE) is contraindicated during pregnancy. Do not use this medicine in case you are pregnant.

If pregnancy occurs during use of Crisanta (Generic Yaz birth control tablets), the preparation should be withdrawn immediately. There is little or no increased risk of birth defects in women who inadvertently use Combined Oral Contraceptives during early pregnancy.

Small amounts of Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol and/or their metabolites may be excreted with the milk during COC use. These amounts can affect the nursing baby.
