Trimetazidine (Generic Vastarel tablets), an anti-ischemic (anti-anginal) metabolic agent, is used for the preventive treatment of episodes of angina pectoris. It is also used to treat Meniere's disease and as an add-on treatment for visual disorders of circulatory origin, vertigo and tinnitus.

Trimetazidine improves myocardial glucose utilization through inhibition of fatty acid metabolism, increases coronary reserve, prevents sudden rises in blood pressure and reduces the frequency of angina attacks.
Carvidon MR tablets are manufactured by Micro Labs Limited in the strengths of 35 mg and 60 mg.

Active Ingredient present in Carvidon MR Tablets

The active ingredient present in Carvidon MR tablets is Trimetazidine. Each tablet of Carvidon MR contains 35 mg or 60 mg of Trimetazidine.

Trimetazidine is prescribed for long term treatment of angina pectoris as well as tinnitus and dizziness. Trimetazidine 35mg and 60mg tablets improves myocardial glucose utilization by inhibiting the fatty acid metabolism. This is also known as fatty acid oxidation inhibitor. Further, Trimetazidine modulates mitochondrial metabolism to energize and revive damaged heart tissue.

Generic Vastarel Tablets (Carvidon MR) Contraindications

Generic Vastarel tablets (Carvidon MR) are contraindicated in the following cases:

• Hypersensitivity to Trimetazidine, the active ingredient or to any of the inactive ingredients present in Carvidon MR tablets.
• Parkinson disease, parkinsonian symptoms, tremors, restlessleg syndrome, and other related movement disorders
• Severe renal impairment (Creatinine clearance less than 30ml/min)
• Pregnancy

Trimetazidine Side effects

The common side effects of Trimetazidine tablets are Dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, dyspepsia, nausea and vomiting, rash, pruritus, urticaria and Asthenia.

Trimetazidine During Breast-feeding

It is not known whether Trimetazidine is excreted in breast milk. A risk to the newborns/infants cannot be ruled out and hence it is recommended that Trimetazidine tablets should not be used during breast-feeding.
