Generic Uroxatral (Alfusin tablets) is used for the treatment of signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Alfusin is not indicated for the treatment of hypertension.

Active Ingredient present in Alfusin Tablets
The active ingredient present in Alfusin tablets is Alfuzosin Hydrochloride. Each film-coated extended-release tablet contains 10 mg of Alfuzosin Hydrochloride.
Uses of Generic Uroxatral (Alfusin by Cipla)
Alfusin by Cipla is used in adult men to treat the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It helps to relax the muscles in the prostate and the bladder which may lessen the symptoms of BPH and improve urine flow. Some of this medicine called an “alpha-blocker” is used to treat high blood pressure. This medicine is not for use in women or children.
Before using Generic Uroxatral, your doctor may examine your prostate gland and do a blood test called a prostate specific antigen (PSA) test to check for prostate cancer. Prostate cancer and BPH can cause the same symptoms. Prostate cancer needs a different treatment.
Alfuzosin Dosage
The recommended adult dosage is one 10 mg Alfuzosin tablet once daily to be taken immediately after the same meal each day. Alfusin tablets should be taken whole and should not be chewed or crushed.
How to Use Alfusin Tablets
Take Generic Uroxatral tablets (Alfusin) exactly as your doctor prescribes it. Take one tablet after the same meal each day. It should be taken just after eating food. Do not take it on an empty stomach. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush, split, or chew tablets.
If you take too much of this medicines call your local poison control center or emergency room right away.
Alfusin Contraindications
Alfusin tablets are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity such as, urticaria and angioedema to Alfuzosin Hydrochloride or any inactive ingredient present in Alfusin tablets.
Alfusin tablets should not be used in patients with moderate or severe hepatic impairment (Childs-Pugh categories B and C) since Alfuzosin Hydrochloride blood levels are increased in such patients.
Alfusin tablets should not be administered along with potent CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ketoconazole, itraconazole and ritonavir, since Alfuzosin Hydrochloride blood levels are increased.
Alfuzosin Side effects
The most common Alfuzosin side effects occurring in 2% or more of the patients undergoing treatment with this medication are Dizziness, Upper respiratory tract infection, Headache and Fatigue.The other Alfusin side effects, reported by between 1% and 2% of patients receiving alfuzosin hydrochloride and occurring more frequently than with placebo are listed alphabetically by body system and by decreasing frequency within body system:
- Body as a whole: pain
- Gastrointestinal system: abdominal pain, dyspepsia, constipation, nausea
- Reproductive system: impotence
- Respiratory system: bronchitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis

Warnings & Precautions When Using Generic Alfuzosin
Do not take Generic Alfuzosin tablets (Alfusin) if you:
• have liver problems
• are taking antifungal drugs like ketoconazole or HIV drugs called protease inhibitors
• are already taking an alpha-blocker for either high blood pressure or prostate problems
• are a woman
• are under the age of 18
• are allergic to alfuzosin (the active ingredient)
Before taking Generic Uroxatral, tell your doctor:
• if you have liver problems
• if you have kidney problems
• if you or any family members have a rare heart condition known as congenital prolongation of the QT interval
• about all the medicines you take such as vitamins and herbal supplements - some of your other medicines may affect the way you respond or react to this medicine
• if you have signs of low blood pressure such as fainting, dizziness, and lightheadedness
• if you have a heart problem called angina (pain in your chest, jaw, or arm)
Patients should be told about the possible occurrence of symptoms related to postural hypotension, such as dizziness, when starting Generic Alfuzosin tablets (Alfusin), and they should be warned about driving, operating machinery, or performing hazardous tasks during this period. This is specially important for patients with low blood pressure or those who are taking antihypertensive medications or nitrates.
Patients should be informed to tell their ophthalmologist about their use of Generic Alfuzosin tablets before cataract surgery (clouding of the eye) or other procedures involving the eyes, even if the patient is no longer taking Alfuzosin Hydrochloride.
Patients should be advised about the possibility of priapism resulting from treatment with Generic Alfuzosin tablets and other medications in the same class. Although this reaction is extremely rare, if it is not brought to immediate medical attention, it can result in permanent erectile dysfunction (impotence).
Alfuzosin Overdosage
In case an overdose of Alfuzosin tablets (Alfusin 10 mg pills) leads to hypotension, support of the cardiovascular system is of primary importance. Restoration of blood pressure and normalization of heart rate may be accomplished by keeping the patient in the supine position.
If this measure is not adequate, then the administration of intravenous fluids must be considered. If required, vasopressors should then be used and the renal function should be monitored and supported as needed. Alfuzosin Hydrochloride is 82% to 90% protein-bound; therefore, dialysis may not be of any benefit.
Alfuzosin During Pregnancy
Alfuzosin Hydrochloride has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category B. Alfuzosin Hydrochloride is not indicated for use in women, and there are no studies of Alfuzosin Hydrochloride in pregnant women.
