Generic Solodyn (Divaine Tablets) is a tetracycline-class medicine which is used to treat only inflammatory lesions of non-nodular moderate to severe acne vulgaris in patients 12 years of age and older.
It is also used treat the following infections due to susceptible microorganisms: gonorrhoea, non-gonococcal urethritis, syphilis, prostatitis, acute and chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, lung abscess, pneumonia, ear, nose and throat infections, urinary tract infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, skin and soft tissue infections, ophthalmological infections, nocardiosis, prophylactic treatment of asymptomatic meningococcal carriers, pre- and post-operative prophylaxis of infection, trachoma, and inclusion conjunctivitis.

Active Ingredient present in Divaine Tablets
The active ingredient present in Divaine tablets is Minocycline Hydrochloride. Each film-coated tablet contains Minocycline Hydrochloride, BP equivalent to 50 mg or 100 mg of Minocycline.
Uses of Generic Solodyn (Divaine Tablets)
Divaine Tablets is used for the treatment of pimples and red bumps (non-nodular inflammatory lesions) that happen with moderate to severe acne in patients 12 years and older. Generic Solodyn is a tetracycline-class antibiotic medicine that contains Minocycline.
Generic Solodyn (Divaine Tablets) - Dosage
The normal adult dosage and frequency of administration of Divaine tablets differs from that of the other tetracyclines. Exceeding the recommended dosage can result in an increased incidence of side effects. Divaine tablets can be taken with or without food. The usual adult dosage of Generic Solodyn tablets for various indications is given below:
Acne
50 mg twice daily for a minimum of 6 weeks. Treatment of acne has to be continued for a minimum of 6 weeks. If, after 6 months, there is no satisfactory response, tablets should be stopped and other therapies considered.
Uncomplicated Gonococcal Infections other than Urethritis and Anorectal Infections
The dosage for treating uncomplicated gonococcal infections in men is 200 mg initially, followed by 100 mg every 12 hours for a minimum of 4 days, with post-therapy cultures within 2 to 3 days. More prolonged therapy may be required in the case of Adult females.
Uncomplicated Gonococcal Urethritis in Men
100 mg, every 12 hours, for 5 days is recommended.
Uncomplicated Non-Gonococcal Urethral Infection in Adults Caused by Chlamydia trachomatis or Ureaplasma urealyticum
100 mg orally, every 12 hours, for at least 7 days.
Syphilis
The recommended dosage of Divaine tablets has to be administered over a period of 10 to 15 days. Close follow-up, including laboratory tests, is strongly recommended.
Pneumonia Caused By Susceptible organisms
The normal dosage of Divaine tablets is 200 mg initially, followed by 100 mg every 12 hours. The alternative dosage regimen if more frequent doses are preferred, two or four 50 mg tablets may be given initially, followed by one 50 mg four times daily. Treatment should be continued for at least 24 to 48 hours after symptoms and fever have subsided.
Meningococcal Carrier State
The usual dosage of Divaine tablets for adults is 100 mg, every 12 hours, for 5 days.
How to Use Generic Solodyn (Divaine Tablets)
The usual dose of Divaine tablets is 1 tablet each day for 12 weeks.
Take this medicine at the same time each day, with or without food. Taking it with food may lower your chances of getting irritation or ulcers in your esophagus. Your esophagus is the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach. Swallow the medicine whole. Do not chew, crush, or split the tablets.
If you forget to take this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If you take too much of this medicine at a time, call your doctor. If you do not notice any improvement in your acne after 12 weeks of treatment with this medicine, call your doctor.
Minocycline Side effects
The most commonly observed side effects of Minocycline tablets with an incidence rate of 5% or more are headache, fatigue, dizziness, and pruritus. The other possible side effects are:
- Skin and hypersensitivity reactions: fixed drug eruptions, balanitis, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, anaphylactoid purpura, photosensitivity, pigmentation of skin and mucous membranes, hypersensitivity reactions, angioneur otic edema, anaphylaxis, DRESS syndrome.
- Autoimmune conditions: polyarthralgia, pericarditis, exacerbation of systemic lupus, pulmonary infiltrates with eosinophilia, transient lupus-like syndrome.
- Central nervous system: pseudotumor cerebri, bulging fontanels in infants, decreased hearing.
- Endocrine: brown-black microscopic thyroid discoloration, abnormal thyroid function.
- Oncology: thyroid cancer.
- Oral: glossitis, dysphagia, tooth discoloration.
- Gastrointestinal: enterocolitis, pancreatitis, hepatitis, liver failure.
- Renal: reversible acute renal failure.
- Hematology: hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, eosinophilia.
Generic Solodyn (Divaine Tablets) - Contraindications
Generic Solodyn tablets are contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to Minocycline, other tetracyclines or any inactive ingredient present in Divaine tablets.
Warnings & Precautions
Do not take Generic Solodyn tablets if you are allergic to minocycline (the active ingredient) or any other tetracycline antibiotics.
Tell your doctor if you:
• have kidney problems
• have any vision problems such as blurred vision
Tell your doctor about all the other medicines you take such as, vitamins and herbal supplements. This medicine and other medicines may interact. Especially tell your doctor if you take:
• a blood thinner medicine
• a penicillin antibiotic medicine
• antacids that contain aluminum, calcium, or magnesium or iron-containing products
• isotretinoin products
Know the medicines you take. Keep a list of them to show your doctor.
This medicine may permanently turn a baby or child's teeth yellow-grey-brown during tooth development. This medicine should not be used during tooth development. Tooth development happens in the last half of pregnancy and birth to age 8 years. It is recommended that this medicine not be used by men who are attempting to father a child.
Minocycline During Pregnancy
Minocycline Hydrochloride is classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category D. This medicine can cause harm to an unborn baby. Results of animal studies have proved that tetracyclines cross the placenta, are found in foetal tissues and can have toxic effects on the developing foetus. This medicine may cause injury and even death to the unborn baby if you take it during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy.
Do not use this medicine without your doctor's consent if you are pregnant. Use an effective form of birth control. Stop using this medication and tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant during treatment.
