Tamodex (Tamoxifen Citrate tablets) are used to treat early breast cancer in women who have already been treated with surgery, radiation, and/or chemotherapy. This medicine is used to reduce the risk of developing a more serious type of breast cancer in women who have had ductal carcinoma in situ.

Tamodex is a selective estrogen-receptor modulator (SERM) that works both by reducing factors that increase the growth of breast cells and increasing factors that decrease the growth of breast cells. Tamodex is also used to reduce the risk of breast cancer in women who are at high risk for the disease due to their age, personal medical history, and family medical history.

Tamoxifen Citrate, the active ingredient present in Tamodex blocks the actions of oestrogen. Oestrogen is a natural female sex hormone. In certain types of breast cancer, oestrogen can help cancer cells to grow.

Active Ingredient present in Tamodex Tablets

The active ingredient present in Tamodex tablets is Tamoxifen Citrate. Each Tamodex tablet contains 10 mg or 20 mg of Tamoxifen.

Uses of Tamodex Tablets

Tamoxifen is used to lower the chance of getting breast cancer in women with a higher than normal chance of getting breast cancer (high-risk women) and to lower the chance of getting invasive (spreading) breast cancer in women who had surgery and radiation for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).

Generic Tamoxifen Citrate (Tamodex by Biochem) is used in women after they have finished early treatment. Early treatment can include surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. It may keep the cancer from spreading to others parts of the body. It may also reduce the woman’s chance of getting a new breast cancer.

Generic Nolvadex (Tamoxifen) works by blocking the growth of breast cancers that needs estrogen to grow (cancers that are estrogen- or progesterone-receptor positive).

Tamodex Tablets - Dosage

The dosage of Tamodex tablets for patients with breast cancer, the recommended daily dose is 20 mg to 40 mg. Dosages greater than 20 mg per day should be given in divided doses (morning and evening).

How to Use Tamodex Tablets

Swallow the tablets whole, with water or another non-alcoholic liquid. You can take Generic Tamoxifen Citrate with or without food at the same time each day.

If you miss a dose, take it when you remember, then take the next dose as usual. If it is almost time for your next dose or you remember at your next dose, do not take extra tablets to make up the missed dose. Tamoxifen Citrate Side effects

Call your doctor right away if you have any changes in the lining (endometrium) or body of your uterus. These changes may indicate that serious problems are starting, including cancer of the uterus. The signs of changes in the uterus are:
• vaginal bleeding or bloody discharge that could be a rusty or brown color
• change in your monthly bleeding such as in the amount or timing of bleeding or increased clotting
• pain or pressure in your pelvis (below your belly button)

Blood clots in your veins or lungs can cause serious problems, including death. You may get clots up to 2-3 months after you stop taking Generic Tamoxifen Citrate (Tamoxifen 20 mg). The signs of blood clots are:
• sudden chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing up blood
• pain, tenderness, or swelling in one or both of your legs

Stroke can cause serious medical problems, including death. The signs of stroke are:
• sudden weakness, tingling, or numbness in your face, arm or leg, especially on one side of your body
• sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
• sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
• sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
• sudden severe headache with no known cause

You may have liver problems, including jaundice, if you have a lack of appetite and yellowing of your skin or whites of your eyes. You may have cataracts or increased chance of needing cataract surgery if you experience blurring of your vision. Contact your doctor immediately if any of these conditions appears.

Tamodex Tablets - Storage

Store Generic Tamoxifen Citrate (Tamodex tablets) at controlled room temperature which is 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F). Protect from light.

Tamodex Contraindications

Tamodex tablets are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to Tamoxifen Citrate or any inactive ingredient present in tablets.

Tamoxifen Citrate During Pregnancy

Tamoxifen Citrate has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category D. Tamoxifen Citrate (Tamodex tablets) may cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman. Women should be advised not to become pregnant while taking Tamodex tablets. Do not use this medicine without your doctor's consent in case you are pregnant. Stop using this medication and inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during treatment.

Nursing Considerations

Two placebo-controlled studies in over 150 women have indicated that Tamoxifen significantly inhibits early postpartum milk production. Due of the potential for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants from Tamodex , women taking Tamoxifen tablets should not breast feed.
Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

• you do not have a higher than normal chance of getting breast cancer
 
Have regular gynecology check-ups, breast exams, and mammograms as per your doctor’s instructions. These will check for signs of breast cancer and cancer of the endometrium (lining of the uterus). Because this medicine does not prevent all breast cancers, and you may get other types of cancers, you need these exams to find any cancers as early as possible.

Tell all of the doctors that you see that you are taking Tamodex (Tamoxifen tablets). Tell your doctor right away if you have any new breast lumps.
