The active ingredient present in Admenta tablets is Memantine Hydrochloride. Each Admenta tablet contains 5 mg or 10 mg of Memantine Hydrochloride.

Uses of Generic Namenda (Admenta Tablets by Sun Pharma)

Generic Namenda tablets are used to treat moderate to severe dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease. They reduce the actions of chemicals in the brain that may contribute to the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.

Memantine Tablets (Admenta) - Dosage

The recommended starting adult dose of Admenta (Memantine tablets) is 5 mg once daily. The recommended target dose is 20 mg/day. The dose should be increased in 5 mg increments to 10 mg/day (5 mg twice a day), 15 mg/day (5 mg and 10 mg as separate doses), and 20 mg/day (10 mg twice a day). The minimum recommended interval between dose increases is one week. Memantine tablets can be taken with or without food.

The safety and effectiveness of Memantine HCl tablets in pediatric patients have not been established and hence its use to treat pediatric patients is contraindicated.

Memantine Side effects

Memantine Drug Interactions

The combined use of Memantine tablets with other NMDA antagonists (Amantadine, Ketamine, and Dextromethorphan) has not been systematically studied and such use should be approached with caution.

Memantine HCl During Pregnancy

Admenta Tablets (Generic Namenda) should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

Slight maternal toxicity, decreased pup weights and an increased incidence of non-ossified cervical vertebrae were observed at an oral dose of 18 mg/kg/day in a study in which rats were given oral Memantine HCl beginning pre-mating and continuing through the postpartum period. This medicine may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.

Memantine Nursing Implications

It is not known whether Memantine is excreted in human milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Since many medicines are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when Memantine HCl (Generic Namenda) is administered to a nursing mother.
Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
