Uses of Generic Micardis (Sartel by Intas)

This medicine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in certain high risk people aged 55 years and older to help lower their risk of having certain cardiovascular problems such as stroke, heart attack, or death.

Telmisartan Tablets (Generic Micardis) - Dosage

Telmisartan tablets (Generic Micardis) may be administered with or without food. When Telmisartan tablets are used for cardiovascular risk reduction, regular monitoring of blood pressure is recommended, and if required, adjustment of medicines that decrease blood pressure may be necessary.

Hypertension:
The starting dose for the treatment of hypertension in adults is 40 mg once daily. The dosage may be titrated depending upon requirement of the individual patient to a final dose range of 40 to 80 mg once daily.

How to Use Generic Micardis (Sartel Tablets)

Take this medicine exactly as your doctor tells you to. Do not change your dose unless your doctor tells you to. Take this medicine one time each day at the same time with or without food.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to your next dose, do not take the missed dose. Take the next dose at your regular time. If you take too much this medicine, call your doctor or go to the nearest hospital emergency room right away.

Telmisartan Side effects

The most common side effects of Telmisartan tablets include:
• sinus pain and congestion (sinusitis)
• back pain
• diarrhea

Generic Micardis (Sartel Tablets) may cause serious side effects including low blood pressure (hypotension). Serious side effects are most likely to happen if you also:
• take water pills (diuretics)
• are on a low-salt diet
• get dialysis treatments
• have heart problems
• get sick with vomiting or diarrhea
• have kidney problems

You may have changes in your kidney test results, and you may need a lower dose of Telmisartan tablets. If you feel faint or dizzy, lie down and call your doctor right away.

Call your doctor if you get:
• swelling in your feet, ankles, or hands

• high potassium in the blood (hyperkalemia)

You may experience sleepiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting when taking this medicine. Use caution when engaging in activities such as driving a car or operating appliances or machinery.

Know the medicines you take. Keep a list of them and show it to your doctor when you get a new medicine.

Telmisartan Tablets - Interactions

The following are the interactions of Telmisartan Tablets with other medications

• NSAIDS: There is an increased risk of renal impairment as well as a loss of anti-hypertensive effect.
• Do not co-administer aliskiren with Generic Micardis in patients with diabetes

Telmisartan Tablets During Pregnancy

Telmisartan has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category D. This medicine is harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Use of medicines like Telmisartan tablets (Generic Micardis) which act on the renin-angiotensin system during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy reduces fetal renal function and increases fetal and neonatal morbidity and death.

Resulting oligohydramnios can be associated with fetal lung hypoplasia and skeletal deformations. Potential neonatal adverse effects can include skull hypoplasia, anuria, hypotension, renal failure, and death. When pregnancy is detected, discontinue Telmisartan tablets as soon as possible.

Telmisartan Tablets During Breast-feeding

It is not known whether Telmisartan passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. In case you are breast-feeding or plan to breast-feed a baby, do not use this medicine without telling your doctor. You and your doctor should decide if you will take Generic Micardis tablets or breast-feed. You should not do both.
