Generic Lamictal (Lametec tablets) is an anticonvulsant medication used in the treatment of epilepsy and bipolar disorder. For treatment of epilepsy, Lametec Tablets (Generic Lamictal) is used in partial or generalised seizures, primary and secondary tonic-clonic seizures, and seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome.
Lamotrigine Tablets are also used off-label as an adjunct in treating clinical depression.
Lamotrigine is marketed under brand names such as Lamictal ®, Lamictal® CD, Lamictal® ODT, Lamictal® XR and Lametec DT. Lametec DT tablets are manufactured by Cipla Ltd. in the strengths of 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg.

Uses of Generic Lamictal (Lametec by Cipla)
Lamotrigine is used to treat certain types of seizures as well as to delay the occurrence of mood problems in certain patients with bipolar disorder. Generic Lamictal (Lametec by Cipla) may be used alone or with other medicines. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
We supply Lametec by Cipla which is also known as Generic Lamictal. It contains the active ingredient Lamotrigine. Lametec by Cipla is a Dispersible Tablet that dissolves easily under the tongue.
Generic Lamictal Tablets (Lametec by Cipla) - Dosage And Administration
Lametec DT (Generic Lamictal) comes as an oral tablet in 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg dosage forms. The recommended adult Oral dosage of Generic Lamictal (Lamotrigine tablets) is given below:
Dosage for Treatment of Epilepsy Add-On Therapy In Adults (over 12 years of age)
In patients taking valproate with/without any other anti-epileptic drug (AED), the initial Generic Lamictal (Lametec tablets) dose is 25 mg every alternate day for two weeks, followed by 25 mg once a day for two weeks. Thereafter, the dose should be increased by a maximum of 25-50 mg every 1-2 weeks until the optimal response is achieved. The usual maintenance dose to achieve optimal response is 100-200 mg/day given once a day or in two divided doses.
In those patients taking enzyme inducing AEDs or other medicines that induce lamotrigine glucuronidation with or without other AEDs (except valproate), the initial Generic Lamotrigine(Lametec tablets ) dose is 50 mg once a day for two weeks, followed by 100 mg/day given in two divided doses for two weeks.
Thereafter, the dose has to be increased by a maximum of 100 mg every 1-2 weeks until the optimal clinical response is achieved. The usual maintenance dose to achieve optimal response is 200- 400 mg/day given in two divided doses. Some patients have required 700 mg/day of Lamotrigine to achieve the desired response.
Dosage for Bipolar Disorder Adults (18 years of age and over):
Because of the risk of rash, the initial dose and subsequent dose escalation should not be exceeded. Lamotrigine is recommended for use in bipolar patients at risk for a future depressive episode. The recommended initial adult dosage of Lametec DT is 25 mg once daily for 2 weeks, followed by 50 mg once daily for 2 weeks.
For Patients NOT TAKING Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Phenobarbital, Primidone, or Valproate
Weeks 1 and 2: 25 mg daily
Weeks 3 and 4: 50 mg daily
Week 5: 100 mg daily
Week 6 and 7: 200 mg daily
How to Use Generic Lamictal (Lametec by Cipla)
Take Lametec by Cipla (Generic Lamictal, Lamotrigine) by mouth with or without food by placing the Orally Disintegrating Tablet on the tongue and move it around inside of the mouth. The tablet will dissolve rapidly and can be swallowed with or without water.
If stomach upset occurs, take with food to reduce stomach irritation. Continue to take Lametec by Cipla (Generic Lametec, Lamotrigine) even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for you next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Lamotrigine Side effects
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. The common side effects (incidence 10% or greater) reported in patients treated with Lamotrigine tablets(Lametec DT) in adult epilepsy clinical studies were dizziness, headache, diplopia, ataxia, nausea, blurred vision, somnolence, rhinitis, and rash.
Get emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction including hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Check with your doctor if any of these most common side effects of Generic Lamictal persist or become bothersome:
• blurred or double vision
• constipation
• decreased coordination
• diarrhea
• dizziness
• drowsiness
• headache
• nausea
• painful menstrual periods
• runny or stuffy nose
• stomach upset or pain
• tiredness
• trouble sleeping
• vomiting
• weakness
• weight loss
Seek medical attention right away if any of these severe side effects occur:
• unexplained hoarseness
• absent menstrual period or other menstrual changes
• calf pain or tenderness
• chest pain
• dark urine, difficult or painful urination
• fast or irregular heartbeat
• fever, chills, or persistent sore throat
• new or worsening mental or mood changes (eg, anxiety, depression, restlessness, irritability, panic attacks, behavior changes)
• new or worsening seizures
• pale stools
• reddened, blistered, swollen, or peeling skin
• severe muscle pain or tenderness
• severe or persistent dizziness or stomach pain
• shortness of breath
• sores in the mouth or around the eyes
• suicidal thoughts or attempts
• swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet
• swollen lymph glands
• tremor
• unusual bruising or bleeding
• unusual weakness or tiredness
• vaginal itching or discharge
• vision changes
• yellowing of the eyes or skin

Overdosage and Overdose Symptoms of Generic Lamictal
Overdoses that have involved up to 15 grams have been reported for Lamictal, some of which have been fatal. Lamictal Overdose has resulted in ataxia, involuntary eye movements, nystagmus, increased seizures, decreased level of consciousness, coma, new or worsening seizures and intraventricular conduction delay.
There are no specific antidotes for Generic Lamictal overdose, hospitalization of the patient is advised. it is recommended that frequent monitoring of vital signs and close observation of the patient be done. If required emesis should be induced or gastric lavage should be performed. The usual precautions should be taken to protect the airway.
Lametec DT Tablets (Generic Lamictal) - Contraindications
Lametec DT tablets are contraindicated in patients who have demonstrated a hypersensitivity to the active ingredient Lamotrigine or any of its inactive ingredients.
Warnings & Precautions
Before taking Lamotrigine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to this medicine; or if you have any other allergies. Lametec DT Tablets (Generic Lamictal) may contain certain inactive ingredients, which may also cause allergic reactions or other problems. Speak to your doctor for more details.
Before using Generic Lamictal, inform your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially if you are suffering, or have ever suffered, from any liver or kidney disorders.
Generic Lamictal may cause dizziness, somnolence, blurred vision and other symptoms and signs of central nervous system (CNS) depression. Accordingly, patients should be advised neither to drive a car nor to operate other complex machinery until they are sure that they can perform such activities safely and are confident that Lamotrigine does not adversely affects their mental and/or motor performance.
Patients should limit the intake of alcoholic beverages.

Lamotrigine Tablets During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Use of Lamotrigine Tablets during pregnancy and breastfeeding is recommended only if benefits outweigh the potential risks. Lamotrigine is rated by US FDA as Pregnancy Category Risk C.
Further the US FDA has issued a warning stating that taking Lamotrigine during the first trimester of pregnancy may increase the risk for cleft lip and palate malformation in newborns. Since Lamotrigine is found in breast milk, the manufacturer of Lametec tablets does not recommend breastfeeding during treatment. Lamotrigine is believed to pass into breast milk.
