What are Generic Crestor Tablets (Rostar by Torrent) Used For?

Rosuvastatin Calcium (Rostar tablets) belongs to a group of cholesterol-lowering medicines called statins. Along with diet, Rosuvastatin (the active ingredient in this medicine) lowers “bad” cholesterol (LDL-C), increases “good” cholesterol (HDL-C), and also slows the progression of atherosclerosis in adults with high cholesterol as part of a treatment plan to lower cholesterol to goal.

How does Rosuvastatin Calcium work?
Most of the cholesterol in your blood is made in the liver. This medicine works by reducing cholesterol in two ways: it blocks an enzyme in the liver causing the liver to make less cholesterol and it increases the uptake and breakdown by the liver of cholesterol already in the blood.

Rosuvastatin Calcium tablets (Rostar) may be given at any time of the day, with or without food.The recommended adult Oral dosage for the treatment of various indications is given below:
Prevention Of Major Cardiovascular Events:
A dose of 20 mg once daily has been found to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events.
Hypercholesterolaemia:
The usual dose range is 10 mg - 40 mg orally once a day. The dosage of Crestor should be individualised as per the goal of therapy and patient response. The majority of patients are controlled at the start dose.
Primary hypercholesterolaemia, mixed dyslipidaemia and isolated hypertriglyceridaemia:
The usual starting dose is 10 mg once a day. For patients with severe hypercholesterolaemia, a starting dosage of 20 mg may be considered.
Homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia:
For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia a starting dose of 20 mg once a day is recommended.
Dosage In Patients With Renal Insufficiency
The usual dose range applies in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment.For patients with severe renal impairment the dose of Crestor should not exceed 10 mg once daily.

How to Use Generic Crestor Tablets (Rostar by Torrent Pharmaceuticals)

Take Rosuvastatin Calcium tablets (Generic Crestor) exactly as prescribed by your health care professional. Do not change your dose or stop this medicine without talking to your health care professional, even if you are feeling well.

Your health care professional may do blood tests to check your cholesterol levels before and during your treatment with this medicine. Your dose of this medicine may be changed based on these blood tests results.

Your health care professional should start you on a cholesterol lowering diet before giving you this medicine. Stay on this diet when you take this medicine.

Rostar can be taken at any time of day, with or without food. Swallow the tablets whole. Wait at least 2 hours after taking this medicine to take an antacid that contains a combination of aluminum and magnesium hydroxide.

If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, do not take 2 doses of this medicine within 12 hours of each other.

If you take too much this medicine or overdose, call your health care professional or a Poison Control Center right away or go to the nearest emergency room.

 

Rosuvastatin Calcium Side effects

Rosuvastatin Calcium (Generic Crestor) is generally well tolerated. The side effects seen with Generic Crestor are generally mild and transient. In controlled clinical trials, less than 4% of patients treated with Rosuvastatin Calcium Tablets (Generic Crestor) were withdrawn due to adverse events. This withdrawal rate was comparable to that reported in patients receiving placebo.

Muscle Problems

Liver problems
Your health care professional should do blood tests before you start taking this medicine and during treatment to check for signs of possible liver problems.

Other Serious Side Effects
Fever or generally feel unwell,swelling of the face, eyelids and lips.

You may need urgent medical attention. Serious side effects of Generic Crestor (Rostar tablets) are rare.

Generic Crestor tablets (Rostar) is contraindicated in patients with

• Hypersensitivity to Rosuvastatin Calcium or any inactive ingredient present in Rostar tablets.
• Pregnancy
• Active liver disease or persistent, unexplained elevations in transaminases.
• During pregnancy, while breast-feeding and in women of child-bearing potential who are not using appropriate contraceptive measures.
• Pre-disposing factors for myopathy/rhabdomyolysis. Such factors include:
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Personal or family history of hereditary muscular disorders
  • Previous history of muscular toxicity with another HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor or fibrate
  • Alcohol abuse
  • Situations where an increase in rosuvastatin plasma levels may occur
  • Severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 mL/min)
  • Concomitant use of fibrates

Warnings & Precautions

The inactive ingredients are: microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, tribasic calcium phosphate, crospovidone, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, triacetin, titanium dioxide, yellow ferric oxide, and red ferric oxide.

The safety and effectiveness of this medicine have not been established in children.

Tell your health care professional if you:
• have a history of muscle pain or weakness
• are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant
• are breast-feeding
