This medicine is used to treat HIV. It helps to keep the HIV virus from reproducing in the body. The medicine is an antiviral medication containing a combination of lamivudine and zidovudine. These medicines are in a group of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) medicines called reverse transcriptase inhibitors. This medication is not a cure for HIV or AIDS.
Lamivudine And Zidovudine Tablets (Duovir) - Dosage
The dosage of Lamivudine And Zidovudine Tablets (Duovir) is given below.
Dose for Adults and Adolescents weighing 30 kg or More:
1 tablet of Duovir twice daily.
Dose for Pediatrics:
Duovir dosage should be based on body weight not to exceed adult doses.
Generic Combivir, which is a fixed-dose combination medication, should not be administered to pediatric patients weighing less than 30 kg or patients requiring dosage adjustment, such as those with renal or hepatic impairment, or patients experencing dose-limiting adverse reactions.
How to Use Lamivudine And Zidovudine Tablets (Generic Combivir)

Missed Dose Instructions

Generic Combivir (Duovir Tablets) Contraindications
Generic Combivir tablets (Duovir) are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity e.g., anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome) to Lamivudine or Zidovudine or to any inactive ingredient present in Duovir tablets.
Duovir Side effects
The most commonly reported Duovir side effects with an incidence greater than or equal to 15% in adult and pediatric HIV-l during clinical studies of combination medicine Lamivudine and Zidovudine tablets were headache, nausea, malaise and fatigue, nasal signs and symptoms, diarrhea, and cough.

• slow or uneven heart rate
Call your doctor at once if you have any of these other serious side effects of Generic Combivir:
• fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms
• pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness
• trouble swallowing, trouble standing up or climbing stairs
• liver problems, stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, or jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
• pancreatitis (severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate)
• white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips
Less serious Duovir side effects may include:
• changes in the shape or location of body fat (especially in your arms, legs, face, neck, breasts, and trunk)
• mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
• numbness or tingling
• sleep problems (insomnia)
• headache, dizziness, tired feeling
• cough, runny or stuffy nose

Store Duovir tablets (Generic Combivir) between 36°F and 86°F (2°C to 30°C). Throw away Duovir that is no longer needed or expired (out of date). Keep Generic Combivir and all other medicines out of reach of children and pets.
Warnings & Precautions When Using Duovir Tablets (Generic Combivir)
Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to lamivudine or zidovudine (the active ingredients). This medicine should not be taken together with any other medications that contain either of the two drugs. This includes Epivir®, Retrovir®, Epzicom® (abacavir and lamivudine), and Trizivir® (abacavir, lamivudine, and zidovudine).
To make sure you can safely take this medicine, tell your doctor if you have any of these other conditions:
• kidney disease
• liver disease (including hepatitis)
• pancreatitis
• bone marrow suppression
• problems with your muscles
Some people develop a life-threatening condition called lactic acidosis while taking this medicine. You may be more likely to develop lactic acidosis if you are overweight or have liver disease, if you are a woman, or if you have taken HIV or AIDS medications for a long time. Talk with your doctor about your individual risk.
This medicine may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.HIV can be passed to your baby if you are not properly treated during pregnancy. Take all of your HIV medicines as directed to control your infection.
Avoid being near people who are sick or have infections. Tell your doctor at once if you develop signs of infection. Taking this medicine will not prevent you from passing HIV to other people. Avoid having unprotected sex or sharing razors or toothbrushes. Talk with your doctor about safe ways to prevent HIV transmission during sex.

Lamivudine And Zidovudine Tablets (Generic Combivir) have been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category C.
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies of Generic Combivir (Lamivudine and Zidovudine) in pregnant women. Clinical trial data demonstrate that maternal Zidovudine treatment during pregnancy reduces vertical transmission of HIV-1 infection to the fetus.
Animal reproduction studies performed with Lamivudine And Zidovudine showed increased embryotoxicity and fetal malformations (Zidovudine), and increased embryo1etha1ity (Lamivudine).
