It is an anti-anxiety medicine that affects chemicals in your brain, which may become unbalanced and cause anxiety.
Generic Buspar Tablets (Buspin) - Dosage and Administration
The usual starting dose of Generic Buspar is 5 mg given three times daily. The dosage can be titrated according to the needs of the patient and the daily dose increased by 5 mg increments every two or three days depending upon the therapeutic response to a maximum daily dose of 60 mg. After dosage titration has been completed, the usual daily dose of Buspin will be 20 mg to 30 mg per day in divided doses.
Food increases the bioavailability of Buspirone Hydrochloride. Buspirone should be taken at approximately the same time each day and consistently with or without food.
Buspirone Hydrochloride (Generic Buspar) - Contraindications
Buspirone HCl (Generic Buspar) is contraindicated in the following cases:

- Carbamazepine: Increased plasma levels of Buspirone.
- Grapefruit, grapefruit juice, significantly increases the plasma levels of Buspirone. The probable mechanism of this interaction is delayed gastric emptying and inhibition of the cytochrome P450 3A4-mediated first-pass metabolism of buspirone caused by grapefruit juice.
- Haloperidol: Increased plasma levels of Buspirone.
- Rifampicin: Decreased plasma levels of Buspirone.
How to Use Buspirone Hydrochloride (Generic Buspar)
Take Buspin tablets(Generic Buspar) exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Do not take this medication for longer than 4 weeks without your doctor’s advice. You may take Buspirone Hydrochloride tablets with or without food but take it the same way each time.
This tablet must be broken into smaller pieces before taking it. The size depends on the amount of medication you require as per your doctor’s advice. There are special scored marks on it to make breaking easy. Do not use the tablet if it has not broken correctly and the piece is too big or too small. Get emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction including: hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
• feeling light-headed, fainting
• fast or uneven heart rate
• depressed mood, unusual thoughts or behavior
• lack of balance or coordination
Less serious side effects may be more likely to occur, such as:
• drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision
• feeling restless

Warnings & Precautions
Do not use Buspin tablets if you are allergic to Buspirone (the active ingredient), or if you have used an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan®), phenelzine (Nardil®), rasagiline (Azilect®), selegiline (Eldepryl®, Emsam®), or tranylcypromine (Parnate®) within the past 14 days. Serious, life-threatening side effects can occur if you take this medicine before the MAO inhibitor has cleared from your body.

• liver disease
If you have any of these conditions, you may not be able to use it, or you may need a dosage adjustment or special tests during treatment.
This medicine can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Avoid drinking alcohol. Cold or allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, or depression can add to sleepiness caused by this medicine. Tell your doctor if you regularly use any of these other medicines.
Buspirone and Pregnancy
Buspirone has been classified by the US FDA as pregnancy category B. This medicine may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether Buspirone HCl passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Buspirone and Alcohol
Formal studies conducted to study the interaction of buspirone with alcohol indicate that Buspirone does not increase alcohol-induced impairment in motor and mental performance.
