Uses of Generic Benicar HCT (Olmezest-H by Sun Pharma)

This medicine is used for treating high blood pressure. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. It is a combination angiotensin II receptor blocker and diuretic. The angiotensin II receptor blocker works by relaxing the blood vessels. Exactly how the diuretic works to decrease blood pressure is unknown, but it helps the kidneys to eliminate fluid and sodium from the body.

Generic Benicar HCT (Olmezest-H Tablets) - Dosage

Generic Benicar HCT (Olmezest-H Tablets) may be administered with or without food. The dosage of Olmesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide tablets is given below:
The normal recommended starting dose of (Olmesartan Medoxomil and Hydrochlorothiazide) is 20 mg once daily when used as monotherapy in patients who are not volume-contracted (volume contraction refers to a state with severe loss of body fluids). If further reduction in blood pressure is necessary after 2 weeks of therapy, the dose can be increased to 40 mg. Twice-daily dosing does not give any advantage over the same total dose given once daily.

How to Use Generic Benicar HCT Tablets (Olmezest-H Tablets)

Generic Generic Benicar HCT tablets may be taken with or without food. Drinking extra fluids while you are taking this medicine is recommended. Check with your doctor for instructions.
This medicine may increase the amount of urine or cause you to urinate more often when you first start taking it. To keep this from disturbing your sleep, try to take your dose before 6 pm.
If you take cholestyramine or colestipol, ask your doctor how to take it with this medicine.
Continue to take this medicine even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once. Olmezest-H Tablets (Generic Benicar HCT) Contraindications

Generic Benicar HCT Tablets is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the active ingredients Olmesartan Medoxomil or Hydrochlorothiazide or to any inactive ingredient present in this medicine. Generic Benicar HCT tablets should not be co-administered with aliskiren in patients with diabetes. Because of the hydrochlorothiazide component present in Olmezest-H tablets , this medicine is contraindicated in patients with anuria or hypersensitivity to other sulfonamide-derived drugs.

Olmesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets Side effects

Generic Benicar HCT (Olmezest-H Tablets) - Overdosage

The symptoms arising from overdose of are given below:

Olmesartan medoxomil:
The most likely symptoms of Olmesartan overdosage in humans would be hypotension and tachycardia; bradycardia could be observed if parasympathetic (vagal) stimulation occurs. If symptomatic hypotension should occur, supportive treatment should be initiated.

Hydrochlorothiazide:
The most common signs and symptoms of Hydrochlorothiazide overdose reported in humans are those caused by electrolyte depletion (hypokalemia, hypochloremia, hyponatremia) and dehydration caused from excessive diuresis.

Warnings & Precautions When Using Generic Benicar HCT (Olmezest-H Tablets)

Do NOT use this medicine if:
• you are allergic to Olmesartan Medoxomil or Hydrochlorothiazide or to any inactive ingredient in this medicine or to any other sulfonamide medicine (eg, sulfamethoxazole)
• you are pregnant
• you have severe kidney problems or are unable to urinate
• you are taking dofetilide or ketanserin
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.
Tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
• if you are planning to become pregnant or are breast-feeding
• if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
• if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
• if you have ever had a severe reaction (e.g. swelling of the hands, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue; trouble swallowing or breathing; hoarseness) after taking any other angiotensin II   receptor blocker or an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor (e.g. captopril)
• if you are dehydrated; have low blood volume; have low blood sodium, chloride, potassium, or magnesium levels; or have high blood calcium levels
• if you have asthma; diabetes; gout; heart problems (e.g. congestive heart failure); liver, gall bladder, or kidney problems; high blood cholesterol or lipid levels; or systemic lupus erythematosus
• if you have recently had nerve surgery

Some medicine may interact with Benicar HCT Tablets. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:
• Dofetilide® or Ketanserin® because the risk of irregular heartbeat may be increased
• adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), barbiturates (e.g. Penobarbital®), corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), diuretics (e.g. Furosemide®),narcotic pain medicines (e.g. morphine), or other medicines for high blood pressure because they may increase the risk of Benicar HCT's side effects
• cholestyramine, colestipol, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (e.g. Ibuprofen®) because they may decrease this medicine effectiveness
• diazoxide, digoxin, lithium, nondepolarizing muscle relaxants (e.g. Tubocurarine®), potassium, or potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g. spironolactone®) because risk of their side effects and toxic effects may be increased by this medicine
• Diabetes medicine (e.g. Glipizide®, metformin), insulin, or pressor amines (e.g. Norepinephrine®) because their effectiveness may be decreased by this medicine

Olmesartan Medoxomil and Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets During Pregnancy

Olmesartan has been classified by the US FDA as Category D. Use of medicines such as Olmesartan Medoxomil and Hydrochlorothiazide tablets (Generic Benicar HCT) that act on the renin-angiotensin system during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy can cause injury and even death to the developing fetus. Potential neonatal adverse effects can include skull hypoplasia, anuria, hypotension, renal failure, and death. As soon as pregnancy is detected, Generic Benicar HCT should be discontinued and you should inform your doctor as soon as possible.

Olmesartan During Nursing

It is not known at present whether Olmesartan is excreted in human milk, but Olmesartan is secreted at low concentration in the milk of lactating rats.
